BODYWORK BEGINS...FITTING DOORS

As the bodywork begins, we must first address the panel fit.  That is, as much as possible, the distance between the doors, bonnet, boot lid and fenders are as consistent as possible.
Since the position of the doors is dictated by the location of the hinges and striker, we will begin there.

A close inspection revealed badly worn hinges which caused the doors to sag.  We replaced the hinges and set the striker on the lock side.  It was necessary to shim only one hinge.  Now the doors fit the door opening.

In the photo to the left, the striker is pictured.  After all the shims were removed, the door latched perfectly.
Now you will notice, in the photo to the right, the front fenders will also require alignment.  To accomplish this, the doors must be removed revealing the fasteners securing the fenders.  This alignment process will be covered in another post.

Also, as a result of proper door alignment, the body line continuing from the door to the rear fender is off by over a half inch.   In order to correct this, the rear fender and stainless steel bead will be removed.  This will prevent any damage to these parts while we are grinding and preparing the panel for adjustment.  This process will also be covered in another post.
