BODYWORK CONTINUES...FINAL PRIMER ON SHELL

Once you see the finished product, it may be difficult to remember the original appearance.  That's why we take photos...and lots of them.

Priming and blocking is a long draw-out process.  In the photo to the right you see the results of the fourth application of high-build primer and the associated blocking.

The photo to the left reveals the application of the final coat of 2k primer.  Quite a difference.

After the final blocking is done, we will be applying the black single stage urethane finish.

BODYWORK CONTINUES...SMALL IMPERFECTIONS

With each coat of primer and each blocking session, we are closer to the near flawless body shell.

But, with so many small imperfections, it just takes time.  Most of the tub is now in satisfactory condition.  One more coat of primer should do it.

The front fenders, which required a great deal of body work, are pictured to the left in primer.

BODYWORK CONTINUES...PRIMING AND BLOCKING

Our main focus at this time is to apply the finish paint to the tub which includes the engine compartment.  Once that is accomplished , the assembly process can begin.
Following the application of the first several coats of high build primer, the first blocking and filling procedure is initiated.

The high and low points in the sheet metal work are easily recognizable as the blocking progresses.

When the blocking and filling is complete, another several coats of high build primer is applied.

Now the body lines are more defined and the surfaces are smooth and relatively blemish free.

Most of the small imperfections visible in the sheet metal following the first application of primer have been repaired.
Next we will be blocking all the surfaces again.  This time it will be much easier and less time consuming.  At best, from this point, there are two more applications of primer and three more blocking procedures before the final application of the black urethane paint.

BODYWORK CONTINUES...STILL PRIMING

Following the completion of the preliminary body work on the grille shell and bonnet, they were ready for primer.

The bonnet was in desperate need of repair due to the previous installation of aftermarket hood pins.  Now for some serious blocking and priming and blocking and priming and blocking and priming...

Fun stuff ahead...

BODYWORK CONTINUES...PRIMING BODY PARTS

Today we applied primer to four more body parts.  The spare wheel access cover, shown to the left, was in exceptional condition.

To the right is the deck lid.  It is also fairly straight.

Pictured to the left are the doors.  A good deal of bodywork has gone into their restoration.  Now they are very straight.
Tomorrow we will be priming the hood and grille shell.

BODYWORK CONTINUES...BODY SHELL IN PRIMER

After weeks of straightening and aligning, we are finally ready to prime the TR3A.
The front and rear fenders as well as the doors are in good alignment.  The bonnet has been reinforced and repaired.
Now the car has once again been disassembled and prepped for the application of the first coats of primer.

After the openings have been masked to minimize the overspray, we are ready to apply the primer.

The engine compartment has been sanded and re-primed.

Now all the surfaces can be blocked and repaired as necessary.  So good to see the TR3 in black.
